Unzip Those Files With QuickUnzip
Software Reviews

When I started using my Pocket PC I quickly realized that I would need to store and open .zip files on my Pocket PC. I use the Pocket PC for carrying documents and files, some of which are zipped. I quickly found QuickUnzip and downloaded it immediately.

As with most Pocket PC applications the install was easy. I installed the software and I was immediately ready to go. The program puts itself in the proper place and works well with the operating system. You can use it much like you would use Winzip or other zipping programs on your PC. You can launch the program, navigate to the appropriate folder and open a zipped file. You’ll then have the opportunity to extract the file into a location of your choice. Although I rarely use the program this way, it is an option.

The better option for me is to use the Pocket PC File Explorer. I navigate to the folder where my zip file is located (most times it’s on my SD card) and I see a special icon indicating that my file is zipped. I double-tap on the file and QuickUnzip is launched. I can see the contents of my zip file and can launch the included file(s) from there.

I was surprised to find out that QuickUnzip even opened zip files that I had encrypted with a password. I have a document with semi-sensitive information that I zip, and encrypt with a password. I have always wanted to be able to carry that document with me but I can’t really do it on a Palm. Sure, I could also use programs like Ilium Software’s eWallet, but it’s much easier for me to have a consistent system like I have on my PC. So, I opened the encrypted file with QuickUnzip and it prompted me for a password, I entered it and the file was open. Woo Hoo! I thought I had finally solved my problem. Then, I looked in my /Temp folder and realized that my encrypted file was now sitting there with no security whatsoever. Apparently QuickUnzip places the file there when you unzip it, but it does not delete it when you close the file. So just beware that you do not try to carry too many sensitive documents without some other kind of encryption.

On balance I really like QuickUnzip. It helps save space and allows me to transfer files from my PC without having to unzip them. I highly recommend this program as long as you do not need very strong encryption. The operations are fast and flexible and very easy to do. Check out QuickUnzip by clicking the link below.
